The Legend of Beaux Catcher Mountain

The story of the Arbors of Beaux Catcher Mountain began in 1842 with Charlotte Kerry-Patton and family. After the loss of her husband, Mrs. Kerry-Patton found tranquility at the Patton family estate overlooking Asheville. During this time Ashe-ville’s well-heeled gentry visited the Patton estate, which was known for its sweeping city-sunset views, gardens and rose arbors.

This pristine location soon became known as the place to be seen. Charlotte often entertained friends and suitors in the gardens of the estate. Many afternoons she could be found strolling around the sweet-smelling arbors with beaux and friends. Years later, her brother-in-law James Patton laughingly dubbed the mountain “Charlotte’s Beaux Catcher.”

The name stuck, and other courting couples embraced Beaux Catcher Mountain as their very own. They enjoyed the sunsets, the twinkling city lights of Asheville and the grandeur of the Blue Ridge Mountains. It became known as a lovers’ overlook, and since the turn of the century, an air of mystique and romance has infused the area with charm. Today, the coveted address on Ardmion park will herald the return of Charlotte’s romance and arbors with the Arbors of Beaux Catcher Mountain.
